just curious
in the world of digital art, there are few more loathsome than those who just paint by numbers over a photo and call it art. I can only speak for myself, but i don't really qualify those who manipulate photos with liquefy and paint on top as true caricaturists.
So, to answer the question. No, i sketch out my portraits and caricatures first and render from the ground up off of the sketch. to be honest i used to be a slave to the color picker, but that is also a major crutch one should avoid.
